The FL 1750 B-2 is the highest output indoor light generator in the FL 1750 range: 138 W of LED for 145 W total consumption. This version delivers neutral white light at 4000 K with a typical colour rendering index of 93, with 0/1-10 V dimming as standard. It accepts PMMA and glass fibre through a Ø28 mm port and is engineered for indoor environments and dry locations.
It is one of the sources we consider when modernising an installation built around an older metal-halide light generator, once compatibility has been checked. One point matters at specification stage: the LED driver is external and rated IP66/IP67, so space must be allowed for it.
Replacing an ageing 250 W discharge generator
Many fibre optic installations still run on a 250 W discharge light source — an HQI or CDM-SA/R metal-halide lamp, a Roblon FL 250 series unit, or a generator integrated or supplied historically by a third party such as Zumtobel, using lamps from manufacturers including Philips and Osram. In most of these installations the fibre harness and the light fittings carry no electricity and can stay in service for many years; only the generator ages.
The FL 1750 B-2 is the source we most often consider for these installations. Whether it is suitable depends on the installation, not on wattage alone. Before any quotation we check the reference and rating plate of the existing unit, the fibre type and diameter, the connector and the condition of its end face, the required colour temperature and light output, the ventilation and ambient temperature, the control protocol in place, and the electrical supply. The FL 1750 uses an external LED driver, which has to be allowed for.

All eight configurations share the same housing and optical assembly: LED 138 W Nichia, 145 W total consumption, Ø28 mm port, PMMA and glass fibre, IP20 with an external IP66/IP67 LED driver, 100-277 V, 280 x 155 x 93 mm, 5.5 kg, LED lifetime above 60 000 hours at the L80 criterion.

Frequently asked questions
Can the FL 1750 replace a Roblon FL 250 or another 250 W metal-halide generator?
It can modernise many of them, but not automatically. Wattage is not a compatibility criterion on its own — the fibre type and diameter, the connector, the required output and colour temperature, the control system, the available space for the external driver and the ventilation all have to be checked first.
What about HQI and CDM-SA/R lamps?
These are lamp designations, not generator models. The same checks apply. Tell us the lamp type and the generator reference together.
We have a fibre optic installation supplied by Zumtobel. Does that change anything?
Not in principle. Generators integrated or distributed historically by third parties — Zumtobel among them — are checked the same way, from the rating plate of the unit actually installed. HQI, CDM-SA/R, Philips, Osram, Zumtobel, Roblon and RobLight are not Metrac brands; they are named here only to describe existing equipment.
Will we have to replace the fibres as well?
Often not. Fibres, conduits and light points can stay in service for many years. Their condition still has to be checked, particularly the connector end face, which determines how much light actually enters the harness.
And a 150 W installation?
That is the FL 1500, not the FL 1750. See the FL 1500 range.
